Job Description

Burwell, a member of the Georgia Network for Educational and Therapeutic Supports (GNETS), with locations in Carrollton, Newnan and LaGrange, is seeking qualified applicants for consideration as a special education teacher. This position serves special education students with severe emotional and behavioral disorders (SEBD). Applicants must hold, or be eligible for special education certification through the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GAPSC). Experience in providing both standards-based instruction and behavioral interventions to this population of students are preferred.

Job Description
TITLE: Teacher
LOCATION: LaGrange
SCHOOL SYSTEMS SERVED: Carroll County, Carrollton City, Coweta County, Heard County, Meriwether County, Troup County
REPORTS TO: Program Coordinator JOB OBJECTIVES (Purposes of the position): To teach severely emotionally disturbed children in a public school program setting
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (Functions essential to attaining job objectives):
-Plans and implements individualized education programs in the therapeutic classroom
-Visits schools for consultation and program planning regarding needs of students
-Supervises teacher assistants and other staff assigned to the therapeutic classroom
-Assesses students to determine educational or developmental status
-Participates in intake and staffing process for referred children
-Conducts weekly staff planning with other members of the treatment team to evaluate the progress of children in the program
-Responsible for periodic data collection on children in therapeutic
classroom for the purpose of evaluating student's progress toward individual objectives
-Provides feedback to students regarding academic and behavioral progress
-Utilize physical restraint techniques with students when necessary
-Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as the director may, from time to time, assign or delegate
JOB STANDARDS (Minimum qualifications needed to perform essential job functions): Georgia Certification in Special Education General Curriculum Highly Qualified at appropriate developmental/subject level
JOB LOCATION (Place(s) where work is performed): Program site, local schools
EQUIPMENT (Machines, devices, tools, etc., used in job performance): Telephone Computer Personal vehicle
